“The importance of the Silk Road as a link between Germany, the EU, Kazakhstan and Central Asia”

The third edition of the East-West Forum of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences took place on September 26, 2023 as part of the “East-West Logistics Forum” of the German-Kazakh University (DKU) in Almaty, Kazakhstan. International guests from countries such as India, Azerbaijan, Japan and China were invited to this event.

The main topic of this year's lectures and panel discussion was the importance of the Silk Road in business and politics. During the panel discussion, representatives from the fields of education, business and politics from Germany and Kazakhstan discussed the impact of the Silk Road on a national and international level. They highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of this major project.

Several DKU students actively participated with questions and shared their own experiences and perspectives. The exchange between the guests and speakers from different language areas was supported by simultaneous translation from English into Russian. In addition, guided company visits to successful logistics companies in Almaty were organized for all speakers in order to experience Kazakhstan's current economic upswing at first hand.

This year's East-West Forum took place outside Europe for the first time and was a great success. We are excited to see where the next forum will take us.
