Ukraine Digital

The DAAD funding programme «Ukraine Digital: Studienerfolg durch praxisorientierte Onlinelehre» supports Ukrainian universities in the implementation of digital teaching and helps Ukrainian students to continue their studies digitally. University of Applied Sciences Mittweida, together with Odessa National University of Economics (ONEU) an Oles Honchar Dnipro National University (DNU), has been part of the funding programme since July 2022.

The war in Ukraine has had a negative impact on the country's infrastructure and higher education system. Despite ongoing hostilities, Ukrainian universities continue to operate remotely. However, due to staff shortages and outdated teaching materials in some courses, many Ukrainian students have been unable to complete their studies.

The Ukraine Digital project at Hochschule Mittweida focuses on supporting partner universities in Ukraine by providing educational materials and scholarships. This helps Ukrainian partner universities to continue the educational process despite the difficulties and restrictions caused by the war.

Ukraine Digital in the period from 2022 to 2024

During the period from 2022 to 2024, the Ukraine Digital project has achieved the following:

1. Provided educational materials that were used in 28 subjects

To fill the gaps in the educational programs of the partner universities, they were provided with educational materials translated into Ukrainian and arranged in the form of presentations, summaries, video lectures, and case studies. The transferred learning materials were integrated into the curricula of 28 disciplines and used by teachers to develop 16 methodological materials.

2. Awarded 179 scholarships to Ukrainian students

The Ukraine Digital project provided financial support to Ukrainian students who stayed in their homeland during the war and continue their studies. The selection was carried out by a committee consisting of representatives of partner universities, based on academic achievements and considering the students' life circumstances.

3. Produced 74 scientific articles and organized scientific conferences

The project contributed to the publication of 74 scientific articles authored by Ukrainian students, which were prepared using the materials provided to the partner universities. These scientific articles were published in the Ukraine Digital Scientific Journal. In September 2023, the first online scientific conference was held, where the best students from DNU and ONEU presented their research.

The project contributed to the integration of interactive e-learning programs into the educational process. These include Kahoot!, Mentimeter, and Prezi.

In 2024, ONEU and DNU lecturers successfully completed a SAP training course, where they gained the practical skills and learning materials needed to upgrade their outdated curricula. This was an important step in the switch from the 1C system, which is banned in Ukraine, to the internationally recognized SAP S/4HANA software and facilitated the launch of the SAP-based Enterprise Resource Planning course at ONEU.

The partners held regular online and offline meetings, which contributed to the constant exchange of experience and improvement of joint work. In October 2024, the Ukraine Digital Exchange event was held, where the delegations of all participating universities were able to meet in person to summarize the results of the three-year cooperation and formulate common partnership goals, which were specified in the MoU.

Ukraine Digital 2025

In 2025, we plan to continue implementing 7 digital courses and provide 23 scholarships for students to support their studies. The partner universities will work on developing, updating and adapting the transferred learning materials, which will result in the creation of 6 new methodological developments that will be used in their curricula.

As DAAD's funding program ends in June 2025, this year will be crucial for consolidating Ukraine Digital's achievements and identifying areas for further cooperation. The project results will be presented to the public and the scientific community.
