Student Assistant (SHK) – Media & Marketing

STEP-NET | Hochschule Mittweida | Faculty of Industrial Engineering | Starting April/May 2026

STEP-NET project (Strengthening Transnational Education Partnerships – Nations in Education Together) is looking for a creative, organised, and motivated student assistant (f/m/d) to join our project team. We are offering a position with up to 40 hours/month, initially until August 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension.

Your main tasks:

  • Creating a logo and visual identity for the project;
  • Helping shape the project's brand strategy (tone of voice, recurring formats, how we want to present ourselves to students, partners, and the wider academic world);
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of media plan for the project's webpage and later social media channels;
  • Creating visuals, graphics, and written content for posts, event announcements, project updates, and partner communications.

Additional tasks:

  • Assisting with the organization and implementation of project-related events;
  • Helping prepare and maintain project documentation – reports, meeting notes, filing, correspondence templates;
  • Assistance with the creation of video learning content;
  • Supporting communication with partners.

What we're looking for:

Must-have:

  • Current certificate of enrolment from Mittweida University of Applied Sciences (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung for Summer Semester 2026);
  • Major in media, communication, design, marketing, journalism, or a closely related field – or a demonstrably strong self-taught background;
  • Experience with design tools (Canva, Adobe, Figma, or similar) and/or content creation for social platforms;
  • You think in both aesthetics and strategy – the work should look good and serve a purpose;
  • Strong written communication in English and German;
  • Reliable, organised, and comfortable managing your own tasks independently.

Great to have:

  • Previous involvement in intercultural or international projects, organisations, student initiatives, or events;
  • You're a team player who enjoys being part of something bigger than a single task;
  • Interest in adding a real, multi-year international project to your developing portfolio.

What we offer:

Contract type: SHK (Studentische Hilfskraft). Remuneration in line with the current rate for student assistants (€13.98/hour).

Start: April/May 2026.

Hours: 40 h/month to begin – hours and contract structure are negotiable depending on your profile and availability.

Duration: Initially until August 2026, with strong likelihood of extension for up to 3.5 years (project runs until December 2029).

Location: Primarily Mittweida, with remote flexibility.

Language of work: English and German.

Application deadline – April 15, 2026

To apply, please send your CV, a short message telling us why you'd be a good fit and include a small portfolio sample or a link to work you've done – even if it's a university project or personal creative work, we'd love to see it.

More about the project:

STEP-NET is a four-year international cooperation project (2026–2029) funded by the DAAD under the TNB-STEP programme. Led by Hochschule Mittweida (Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Prof. Dr. Serge Velesco) it brings together partner universities in Ukraine and Georgia to modernize joint modules and the existing double-degree programmes by updating its curriculum, teaching methods, and digital formats to meet current academic and labour market standards, with a strengthened connection to Germany.

Key activities include:

  • Curriculum revision and development of new specialisation modules with stronger Germany-related content;
  • Development of an online alumni and industry network with annual events;
  • Digital marketing, website presence, and LinkedIn-based promotion of the Double Degree programme;
  • Development of a joint hybrid Scientific Competence module linking research and teaching across partner universities, with a focused roll-out planned by 2029;
  • Cultural and informational events with a Germany focus for students and teaching staff;
  • Joint planning and steering meetings in Germany, Georgia, and Ukraine.

STEP-NET builds on over two decades of the Industrial Management programme at Hochschule Mittweida and on double degree partnerships established since 2016. You'll be joining a project that is just getting started – which means there is real creative space here. We have a clear direction and a team with experience (our previous project, Ukraine Digital, ran successfully from 2022 to 2025).

The project was approved to run until December 2029, so if you stay with us, this could be a role that carries you through the better part of your studies.

What we're building now with STEP-NET needs its own identity, and we'd love to build it together with the right person.
