Objective

Affordable housing, resource-efficient construction, energy-efficient refurbishment. Today, sustainability defines the real estate industry.

Today's real estate managers need more than just legal and technical knowledge to reconcile the wishes of their customers with what is really feasible. From the development and construction of a new property, through its use and restructuring, to its demolition, they take into account the impact on people and the environment in their economic considerations.

What is required here is above all economic, ecological-technical and socio-cultural methodological knowledge: the ability to find the optimum solution for people, the environment and the economy when faced with new challenges by weighing up different approaches. This is exactly the knowledge you will acquire at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences.

Career prospects

Of course, you could start your own business as a broker. But the focus of the study program is different.

If you study Sustainable Real Estate Management at Mittweida University, you will become a professional in the evaluation of real estate and construction measures.

  • You will help companies and housing cooperatives, architecture and engineering offices, or public building and real estate offices to design construction projects in such a way that they are optimal from a social, ecological and economic point of view.
  • For investors such as insurance companies and funds or credit institutions such as banks and building societies, you assess real estate and properties and suggest more sustainable alternatives.
  • As a real estate manager, you manage all technical, infrastructural and commercial processes for the maintenance of the company's buildings and land.

Stucture

Real projects instead of cramming regulations.

Mittweida University of Applied Sciences is different. The focus of your studies is not on acquiring knowledge by reading and memorizing literature. What counts here: That at the end of your studies you know exactly how to solve problems and challenges in your daily work. To this end, you will be given a colorful bouquet of methods. Applying these methods is a central part of your studies.

You can look up and read through the appropriate regulations at any time. But what gives you a real advantage after your studies in Mittweida is the experience you gain, for example, in transfer projects. At the end of each semester, you work in groups to apply the knowledge you have gained in the previous months. The highlight: The projects are real. For example, Siemens Real Estate, which manages all of the company's real estate, asks you to come up with a concept for how they should make structural changes to one of their office buildings. Our students have also already developed concepts for the revitalization of Chemnitz's Brühl district, which were then discussed by the city council.

Very important: Don't be afraid. All transfer projects serve to consolidate the knowledge acquired in lectures, seminars, and excursions during the respective semester. The technical and business subjects are always supplemented with socio-cultural and ecological aspects that are crucial for sustainable construction and operation of real estate.

A note: Even with the word "mathematics" in the study plan, don't be afraid. As a foundational subject, math is important for all majors that combine business and technical aspects. If you need support, there is a large tutorial program at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, where students from the higher semesters help you to best prepare for the exams.
